Enterprise DevOps

“If you build it, you own it.”

DevOps is a movement that aims to bring development (Dev) and operations (Ops) closer together and to maximize automation of manual work and processes. Better collaboration ensures that responsibility for the outcome is shared, and far-reaching automation ensures acceleration thanks to the use of a standardized and flexible infrastructure. Many organizations see DevOps as the logical next step after Agile. Thanks to an agile way of working, once the business is directly involved in the development of new software, it is time to include IT operations. Agile brings acceleration into the organization through its focus on working with product owners in short iterations, which enables new applications and releases to be delivered more frequently. There is, however, a risk that this way of working will get bogged down in slow, manual and error-sensitive hand-over processes between software development and IT operations DevOps initiatives are a response to this risk.

From DevOps to Enterprise DevOps

“If you build it, you own it.” It sounds simple, but how do you ensure that agile and DevOps ways of working are interlinked? How do you make sure that DevOps, and especially the investment in standardizing and automating testing and deployment processes, is actually recouped? What are the prerequisites for DevOps? What does a transformation look like across the different development pipelines and with various cloud platforms? How do you ensure that IT operations – that stands for continuity and regards the current processes as guaranteeing this continuity – will recognize the possibilities of DevOps and at the same time keep control of operations during the transformation initiated by DevOps? Our experience has shown that you can only answer questions like these if you build the bridge that DevOps claims to be based on three fundamental elements: a design, a shared roadmap, and use of targeted experiments.

Shorten the lead times of releases and changes
Improve the quality and reliability of delivery
Optimize the value for customers and users

What results does Enterprise DevOps deliver?

Enterprise DevOps delivers more than just the results that DevOps delivers, such as faster release deployments and fewer disruptions. It is not just about automating a single pipeline or facilitating one or several DevOps teams. Enterprise DevOps goes further than all this. It is focused on the broader and more sophisticated transformation of all IT production processes in Dev and Ops. Apart from acceleration and reduced error sensitivity, the aim of Enterprise DevOps is also to increase control and transparency. Without these last two elements, a DevOps transformation will end up providing freedom and speed, while DevOps is actually all about responsibility and predictability.

“Enterprise DevOps lays a new foundation under your IT; one that is based on a high degree of standardization and automation of processes and workflows.”

Independent advice as a foundation

Quint helps your organization in adopting the Enterprise DevOps principles and practices that are best suited to it. DevOps is never a case of one size fits all. Together with you, we focus on the areas that offer the most value to your organization, with the right foundations across the axis of people, processes and technology. We use frameworks, best practices (DASA, DORA) and technology platforms (Atlassian, ServiceNow, XebiaLabs, AppDynamics, Micro Focus) to shape DevOps within your organization.

Design & Layout

We design the DevOps Governance model in which the responsibilities of working in a DevOps ecosystem in connection with operations are clearly defined. It also contains the IT4IT design with an overview of the IT tooling landscape (from development street and testing to CI / CD and service management).

Assessment & Roadmap

Each team is at a unique starting point and with its own specific challenges. We therefore always start measuring where the teams are based on DevOps dimensions and principles. Through the DevOps Performance Platform, teams can work on the basis of fact-based metrics to continuously improve their team development and performance.

Transformation Dashboard

The DevOps Leadership Dashboard provides insight and overview into the performance and (growth of) maturity of the DevOps teams and applications entrusted to them. Metrics are compiled by aggregating data from various tools (Jenkins, Jira, XebiaLabs, etc.) that are used in the organization.
